PURGATORY

Scene 1 ~

Adie sitting on a black box center stage with 4 orange/red lights shinning upwards out (similar to as if you put a torch under your face) haze around the stage, the rest of the stage is black.

Adie:

Satana, concedimi il potere di essere forte nello spirito. Concedimi la saggezza per capire le tue vie. Concedimi la conoscenza per potenziare me stesso Potenza in nome di Satana. Scene 2 ~ the transition from S1 to S2 is done in a red light with the Varsuviana Polka music playing. The set team move around mechanically in a circle. Whilst this is happening Adie exists and Jack and Catherine enter and wait at the back, center stage. The light is dimly lit to resemble a bar. To the right of the stage is a double bed on wheels, but not light. Once the stage is ready…

Jack is sat left stage, on a bar stool. Catherine walks between the audience on her way to Jack. Coming behind Jack she blows smoke in his face before sitting on the bar stool next to him.

Catherine:

Is my underwear showing?

Jack:

I wouldn’t know, I wasn't looking.

Catherine:

Would you like it to be?

Catherine opens a cigarette pack and offers one to Jack, who declines

Jack:

Smoking is a sin, I don't sin. If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Catherine:

Would you like to come to my temple, and show me how you’d worship it?

Catherine uncrosses her legs and leans down so that her head is resting on her arm, which Jack grabs aggressively

Jack:

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against her own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Catherine:

How about you be my God and I’ll get down on my knees and worship you.

Catherine gets onto her knees in front of Jack

Jack:

I’ll purify the sins from your soul, and let the eternal damnation leave your body.

Catherine leans over and whispers in his ear

Catherine:

That does sound dirty

Jack pulls Catherine onto his laps and begins to show signs that this situation is something Catherine would need to escape

Catherine:

I don’t think you're cut out for this sweetheart

Catherine tries to get away as she places the cigarette in her mouth. Jack takes this from her mouth and begins to move it to his lips, before suddenly stabbing it in her eye. Catherine reacts, screaming and crying. Jack throws the cigarette to the floor and takes Catherine to his bed, which Adie and Amy have pushed to center stage. Amy is standing on a podium to the right of the bed, and begins her commentary while Jack rapes Catherine. The light turns bright green, spotlighting the bed and Amy.

Amy:

Shot up the right side, stiff armed the nearest defender and scored (cheering sounds), after barely fouling the tackler, takes up the back door slider for strike three open (oooh sounds), she squares up the defender and tries nutting them (boo sounds), another muffed punt return from Amber which is leading to Jack’s final goal and Jack has finally found the right hole (cheering sounds). He's pitched it up and in. TOUCHDOWN. (cheering sounds)

The light changes to a spotlight on Jack as he finishes with Catherine and goes for a wee. As he turns back to the bed Adie is spotlighted with a chainsaw before there is a black out, sound of chainsaws and a scream are heard making it clear that Adie has killed Jack.

Scene 3 ~ The transition from the end of scene 2 to scene 3 is done in a red light with the Varsuviana Polka music playing. The set team move around mechanically in a circle. Adie sitting on a black box center stage with 4 orange/red lights shinning upwards out (similar to as if you put a torch under your face) haze around the stage, the rest of the stage is black. Adie is eating Jacks body parts.

Adie:

Nostro padre, Chi arte nell'inferno. Maledetto il tuo nome. Il tuo regno sulla terra è venuto. La tua volontà sarà fatta all'inferno come è sulla terra. Concedici il tuo potere e la tua forza. Scene 4 ~ The transition from the end of scene 3 to scene 4 is done in a red light with the Varsuviana Polka music playing. The set team move around mechanically in a circle.

There is a blue light all around stage and a projection of water. The scene opens with Catherine sitting in a bath, filled half way with water. Jack is behind her but unseen and Amy and Adie are either side of her holding buckets filled with red water. Catherine washes herself normally with a sponge.

Catherine:

Jack and Jill went up the hill

to fetch a pail of water

Jack fell down and broke his crown

and Jill came tumbling after

up Jack got, and home did trot

as fast as he could caper

he went to bend to meant his head

with vinegar and brown paper

Adie and Amy begin to tip the buckets into the bath. Jacks hands start to appear on Catherine’s body, leaving red stains as his hands will have red paint on them. Catherine begins to feel uncomfortable but continues to wash herself.

Jack and Jill went up the hill

to fetch a pail of water

Jack fell down and broke his crown

and Jill came tumbling after

in Jack got, and blew his lot

as fast as he could rape her

they went to bed which killed her dead

but all that doesn't matter

Jacks figure is more apparent now and Catherine grows more and more uncomfortable

Jack and Jill went up the hill

to fetch a pail of water

Jack fell down and broke his crown

and Jill came tumbling after

in the lane, the street was plain

the mask had shown no faces

her tight red skirt and see-through shirt

exposed her in all places

Jack and Jill went up the hill

Jacks body shadows Catherine’s as she cries to herself, she tried to continue what she was saying

Jack and Catherine:

Her fault it was said, to leave the bed

Jack covers Catherine’s mouth to stop her from talking before continuing what she was saying

Jack:

a girl of under ages

he was shot, in hell he shall rot

the law court case that left no trace

for how those angels killed me

Jack moves forward to grasp Catherine further as she walks out the bath. Amy and Adie both hold Jack under the water until he dies.

Scene 4~ The transition from the end of scene 3 to scene 4 is done in a red light with the Varsuviana Polka music playing. The set team move around mechanically in a circle. As this happens Adie and Amy fill the jugs from the previous scene with bath water and pour it into the jugs on each audience table.

Adie:

Lode, Ave, Satana! Gloria a Satana il Padre della Terra e a Lucifero la nostra luce guida e a Belial che cammina tra i mondi ea Lilith la regina della notte. Come era nel vuoto dell'inizio. È ora, e sempre lo sarà, il regno di Satana senza fine così è fatto.

Scene 5 ~ The transition from the end of scene 4 to scene 5 is done in a red light with the Varsuviana Polka music playing. The set team move around mechanically in a circle. There are 4 church pews and an alter downstage center with a cross on it. The light is natural and Ave Maria is quietly playing. Amy is sitting on the front pew, and Jack behind her.

Amy:

Forgive me father for I have sinned, I met a man, I know, I know. I’m married. But I'm lonely. My husband, he doesn't pay attention to me. But this new guy, oh God! oops sorry. He makes me feel young again, he's sweet, passionate, he pays attention to me. I crave him. He satisfies me like no other man ever could. His body, I love, those big strong arms, they make me feel safe even when they are clasped round my neck. I enjoy the pain, I encourage the it. It hurts when he pushes inside but the pleasure balances it out. Every thrust another wave of satisfaction. I can feel his hot breath on my neck. I can feel his tip crashing into my crevics, my clit pulsing. I’m so close! Keep Going! OH GOD!….

Jack reaches from behind Amy and strangles her with a rosary necklace. Adie comes on and pours ‘gasoline’ over Jack. The lights cut and then we see a match light.

Scene 6 ~ The transition from the end of scene 5 to scene 6 is done in a red light with the Varsuviana Polka music playing. The set team move around mechanically in a circle. Jack is center stage on a big cross. The light is slow disco ball, multi-colored.

Adie:

Roll up, roll up! Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the unfair fair ground!

Catherine:

We have three very exciting games for you all to participate in, don't we Jack (slaps his cheeks)

Amy:

Our first game is target practice. Can I please have three volunteers that think they can hit bullseye (hits jacks chest)

Amy:

First up, aim for his unmentionables, where he violated his first victim. (Amy selects three members from the audience to come onstage, and gives them, in turn, a water gun filled with paint, Jack reacts to everything) Ready, aim and fire, so close but yet so far.

Next! Try aim for his neck, where he suffocated his second victim. Ready, Go!

Our final chance, aim straight in the center of his chest, where he claims that his heart lay. Are you ready, aim and fire.

We have a hit! Here’s your prize (Amy pulls out Catherine’s shirt from scene 1 ripped and stained red, from a Santa bag).

Catherine:

Our second game is Hook a Part! (Catherine picks one audience member, explains the game, and gives them a fishing rod to hook a body part with, as this is happening Adie pours the body parts into the bath)

And your prize is the body parts we saved kindly from the massacre that occurred in the bedroom. (whichever body part they picked out)

Adie:

Our final game tonight is Hoopla! (Picks one audience member to throw the rope over Jacks head and pretends strangle him)

And our final prize is (pulls out a rosary)

The three girls come center stage in a line, with spotlights on each of them, and one on Jack.

Amy:

Jack, have you learned anything?

Jack:

No

Catherine:

Jack, do you feel remorse?

Jack:

No

Adie:

Jack, we are the angels of death. We protect those who died in vain. You must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that you may receive what is due for what you have done in the body, whether good or evil. I ask you one more time. Jack, have you learned anything?

Jack:

No

Adie:

Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.

All three: And so we start again

Scene 7~ A rewind noise is heard and the transition from the end of scene 2 to scene 3 is done in a red light with the Varsuviana Polka music playing. The set team move around mechanically in a circle. Whilst this is happening Adie exists and Jack and Catherine enter and wait at the back, center stage. The light is dimly lit to resemble a bar. To the right of the stage is a double bed on wheels, but not light. Once the stage is ready…

Catherine:

Catherine:
