People Show - The Last Straw

We are the People Show. We are a collective company of artists who form the UK’s first experimental theatre company. Informed by a rich legacy of performance dating back to 1966, every new show we make is given a number to instigate our next creative inquiry. Creatively we are always shifting shape, actively defying definition

Waiting for Godot for the post-truth age’ (The Herald), People Show’s 130th show The Last Straw challenges audiences to consider the dystopian absurdity of modern communication.

Confined in an unidentified liminal space, a man and a woman are trying to pin down some facts. Hurried along by relentless content, stricken by disasters and facing problems varying vastly in scale, how do we know where to focus? How do we know what’s true anymore? With the facts literally shredded on the floor, we observe these people as they navigate love and loss as it intersects with the complexities of today’s world.

The last Straw is a piece devised and produced by theatre company

The Last Straw: People Show: the piece is devised to appeal to the younger audience and generation this is also significant, as it was performed on University Campus. It explores popular topics which are significant to this generation.

Each of the topics explored in the Last Straw are of key significance to this generation, they include:

Fake news

Brexit

Social Sterotypes

Each of these subjects are wildely discussed in todays climate however in my opinion the most important question to this play was; does the language and script doing it any justice?

People Show: the significance of modern scripting in this show cannot be understated as it is devised to appeal to the younger audience and generation it was targeted at considering it was performed on University Campus. How do the topics discussed provide significane to the audience.
