Production Project 2

4 different rehearsals or workshops for the Production of A Coronial

1 - Characterisation workshop – Method Acting, Blank Canvas

This workshop is in reference to the essential need to this performance. Actors need to more than ever feel and understand their character. This is important not only to give an effective and empathetic performance but also to get the glitches and resets correct.

It would follow the structure of:

- Walking around the room as you would comfortably and normally, the essential part is to walk and try and achieve an entirely mentally clear mind set. The idea is to try and imagine your mind as a white canvas. Whilst walking atmospheric music will be playing in order to achieve this.

- Next with this blank canvas the task is to start painting and building your character on the canvas which is you.

- Next is to interact with the others in the rehearsal space as if you where your character and finally react to the music that is being played. How would your character react and approach this workshop if she/he was in your shoes

2 - Sit down read through and discussions

This rehearsal follows on from the idea of structure being essential in this play. Its not primarily there for characters to know each others lines but to really bring a light to the structure of the show. This rehearsal will take place focusing on the end of the piece where the glitches and resets reverse roles where the resets change but the glitch doesn't.

- All actors will sit in a circle and in a monotone way read through final few glitches there is an emphasis on focusing of how the structure of the final glitches play out.

- Next a discussion process of how the cast would adapt or change this segment. Any changes or ideas will be taken into consideration and added if need be.

- The rehearsal would continue with the actors standing in a circle and reading through the piece this time with the knowledge of the structure the actors now repeat this section over and over exploring different eye contact and vocal play they could potentially use as their characters

3 - Rehearsals focused on randomness whilst acting as a normal human

This rehears aims to develop an actors ability to play a character and respond to chaos as there character. This is highly important that each actor can respond to the piece as there character, maintaining the deep meaning across the glitches and resets

- Each actor will be asked to leave the rehearsal space and re-enter as their character, there will be no opportunity to prepare themselves they must walk out and in with an immediate change

- They will then be asked to improvise as their characters. This means they need to have a deep understanding of their characters and know how they would think giving them random scenarios to improvise off.

4 - Workshop where actors show how they would create the play

Finally this idea for a workshop stems of research done into styles of directing, where i want to gain large amounts of input from my cast in order to create a more widely empathetic piece.

In this workshop i would have asked each cast member to look over the script and come in with ideas of how they would stage it and put the production. Each one in turn would go up and present their ideas, each would be discussed.
